US Open Snowkite Masters Results

The 5th Anniversary of the US Open Snowkite Masters was an impressive event with great weather, the largest crowd ever, more sponsors, more fun, and lot of kiting! The racing at the event was impressive with more entries and more skill than ever before.

The 2009 US Open Snowkite Masters Winduro was held Friday under blue skies and variable, light winds. The course ran South out of the gully and up the West side of the Main Ridge to the first flag, East along the Main Ridge to flags three and four, and back down to the start/finish line. The light wind made for challenging conditions that required not only terrain reading skills, but also excellent kite handling skills to eek out enough power to make it up and out of the gully. The skiers had a strong advantage and showed that with finish times more than twice as fast as the snowboarders. The results are as follows:

Winduro Race Men’s Ski

1st: Patrick Nedele – Ozone

2nd: Lorne Glick – Ozone

3rd: Tom Reynolds – Ozone


Winduro Race Men’s Snowboard

1st: Billy Bordy – Ozone

2nd: Jake Buzianis – Best

3rd: Murphy – Ozone


Winduro Race- Womens Ski

1st: Alicia Harmon – Ozone

The 2009 US Open Snowkite Masters Boarder Cross pitted some of the best kiters in a short course race that featured a difficult climb, a zig-zagging traverse, a screaming descent and finally an exhausting final leg upwind in the lightest wind section of the course. The competitors fought hard on this course with a few disputes over starts and a couple kite collisions, but overall a great afternoon of racing. With a spectrum of spectators on-hand and play by play commentary by myself and Billy Bordy, it was an exciting race series to crown the National Champions. The Boarder Cross results are as follows:


Men’s Snowboard Boarder Cross

1st: Jake Buzianis – Best

2nd: Ettiene Lotte – F-one

3rd: Billy Bordy – Ozone

4th: Bret Hasbrouck – Ozone

5th: Murphy – Ozone


Men’s Skier Boarder Cross

1st: Patrick Nedele – Ozone

2nd: Tom Reynolds – Ozone

3rd: Loren Glick – Ozone

4th: Brad Gordon – Cabrinha

5th: Christian Balmer – Ozone


Women’s Snowboard Boarder Cross

1st: Heather Schenck- Ozone

2nd: Monica Masuda – Ozone [tie]

2nd: Clarrisa Hempel – Cabrinha [tie]

3rd: Arla Funk – Liquid Force


Women’s Skier Boarder Cross

1st: Monica Bassett-  Ozone

2nd: Alicia Harmon- Ozone

3rd: Susie Williamson- Best
